Description text goes hereThe Difference Between Faux Locs and Soft Locs:
Faux locs is the overarching term used to describe different types of locs. Faux locs are a hairstyle that blend synthetic hair extensions with your natural hair to create a loc look. Faux locs can either be applied with a braid-in or crochet method. Soft locs also known as butterfly locs have a specific installation method with a softer finish, less tension and a lighter weight than traditional faux locs. Soft locks can be created by crocheting pre-made soft-locks into the cornrows or by individually wrapping hair. Because soft locs are generally softer, they have more movement when first installed making them easier to style. This style is great for anyone looking to cut down on heat damage caused by normal styling, giving your natural texture a much-needed break.
How to Care for Faux Locs and Soft Locs?
Similar to other braided protective styles, daily care is key to elongating your style. Switching up your daily habits by wearing a silk scarf or bonnet while sleeping, keeping hair hydrated and wearing a shower cap to prevent locs from slipping during showering is key. When it comes to washing, you need to take special care to avoid friction when shampooing. Concentrate at the roots and use shampoo to cleanse the scalp, allowing the shampoo to run down your lengths without rubbing the mid-lengths and ends.
How to Wear Faux Locsand SoftLocs
The beautiful thing about faux locs and soft locs are their ability to be completely customized. From adding in color to switching up your style with a ponytail or updo or even completing your look with fun accessories like beads and hair jewelry, the options are endless.
How Long Can I Wear Faux of Soft Locs?
Faux locs and soft locs should ideally be worn for about 4-6 weeks depending on your daily routine. After this time, soft locs will begin to slip and can place undue tension on your roots. When the locs begin to pull on your natural hair, they can be removed by trimming the ends (avoiding your natural hair) and unravelling them.
MICROLOCS
Micro Locs are considered a protective hairstyle, as they keep the hair neatly secured and minimize manipulation of the hair strands, protecting it from damage and promoting length retention; however, proper maintenance and styling techniques are crucial to ensure they remain protective.
• Hair is fully incorporated: When done correctly, all the hair is sectioned and formed into locs, eliminating loose ends that can cause breakage.
• Reduced manipulation: Once installed, micro-Locs require minimal daily styling, reducing the need for excessive combing or manipulation.
• Versatility in styling: Micro Locs can be styled in various ways like braids, twists, buns, or even let loose depending on the desired look.
• Regular maintenance: Micro Locs need periodic retwisting to maintain their shape and prevent tangles.
• Moisture retention: Keeping the locs adequately moisturized is essential to prevent dryness and breakage
Sister locs
are a small type of locs, thinner, rope-like strands of hair. Locs are a common protective hairstyle. People create them using methods like interlocking, palm rolling, or braiding. They can also matt, twist, or coil the hair. The Sister locs technique uses a grid pattern and an interlocking tool to create uniform locs. When forming the locs, a stylist will start at the ends and move upward to the scalp. This helps reduce pulling and tension at the roots. This makes them lighter and thinner. In general, Sister locs have more structure, flexibility, and styling options.
Dreadlocks are protective hairstyle when maintained properly, as they minimize manipulation of the hair by keeping it in locked sections, which can help prevent breakage and damage from daily styling, especially for people with curly or coil hair; however, improper care can lead to build-up and potential damage to the hair shaft, so proper maintenance is crucial to reap the protective benefits. Key points about dreadlocks as a protective style:
• Reduced manipulation: The locked sections prevent constant combing and styling, which can cause breakage on delicate hair types.
• Environmental protection: Locs can shield hair from environmental stressors like wind and friction.
• Versatility: Different dreadlock styles like freeform locs, two-strand twists, or braids can be incorporated for varied looks while still maintaining protection. Important considerations.
• Proper installation: Improper installation techniques can lead to excessive tension and hair damage.
• Regular maintenance: Locs require consistent cleansing, moisturizing, and retwisting to prevent buildup and maintain healthy hair.
• Hair type: While protective for most hair types, people with very fine or fragile hair might need extra care when considering dreadlocks.

Box Braids, Bohemian Knotless
This type of hairstyle is a "protective style" (a style which can be worn for a long period of time to let natural hair grow and protect the ends of the hair) and is "boxy", consisting of square-shaped hair divisions. Box braids are generally installed by using synthetic hair which helps to add thickness as well as helping the natural hair that is in the braid. Because they are not attached to the scalp like other similar styles such as cornrows, box braids can be styled in a number of different ways.
BENEFITS
• They are painless. Without any added hair extension at the root, there won’t be any friction, pulling, or tension placed on the scalp.
• Knotless braids require fewer extensions than knot braids, so they will feel lighter & less bulky on your head.
• Knotless braids can last longer than knot braids. • Because knotless braids don’t use synthetic hair throughout the entire braid, they have a sleeker, more natural look.
• Since a knotless style has no extensions at the root, there’s more flexibility in styling. With less scalp tension, you can put your curls up without waiting for your roots to loosen. THINGS TO CONSIDER • You will have to pay around $200-$600 if you want knotless braids. Knotless braids are more expensive because you pay for a more intricate technique on top of the stylist’s time. There is also usually a price difference depending on size (i.e. small knotless braids vs large knotless braids).
• Knotless braids will take longer to install than knot braids.
• How long you want your knotless braids to last. The smaller the braid, the longer it will last. We recommend medium knotless braids for a longevity somewhere in the middle.
• Different styles for knotless braids. You can request curly ends, goddess braids, adding a fun hair color, a high ponytail, bohemian knotless braids & more.
Knot box braids
have been one of the top protective styles around the world for forever. Here are a few pros & cons to think about when deciding what your new curly hair look will be.
BENEFITS
• Knot box braids are less expensive than knotless box braids.
• It will take less time to install this style than knotless.
THINGS TO CONSIDER
• They are typically very tight on the scalp & can cause tension, pain, & breakage.
• Your style will have a bulkier & less natural look since you will be using extensions from the root to the ends.
• You should come prepared with your desired length. For example: waist length, mid back length, butt length, etc.
ARE KNOTLESS BRAIDS GOOD FOR HAIR GROWTH?
Knotless braids are one of the best protective hairstyle techniques to help promote hair growth. Reducing tension on the scalp creates a better environment for your hair to retain length & flourish.
HOW LONG SHOULD I LEAVE IN KNOTLESS BRAIDS?
Even though knotless braids may last longer than knot braids, it doesn’t mean they can last forever. You should never keep in any protective style for more than 10 weeks. Keeping them in for too long can cause dryness, irritation, & damage to the scalp. This can negatively impact the overall health of your hair texture.
WHAT IS THE BEST HAIR TO USE FOR KNOTLESS BRAIDS?
Even though you will be using less synthetic hair for the knotless technique, you should always get more packs than you think you’ll need. Your stylist will most likely recommend using pre-stretched Kane Kalon.
HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY BRAIDS?
To help keep your scalp healthy & maintain your braids, you will need to nurture them with hair products for braids. Here are a few tips & product recommendations.
• Moisturize your scalp using water & the PATTERN’S Scalp Serum, Hydrating Mist, or Argan Oil to prevent irritation & keep your hair shiny & healthy.
• Protect your hair at night by sleeping on a silk pillowcase & covering your braids with a scarf or satin cap to keep them hydrated & frizz-free.
• Cleanse your braids by washing & conditioning at least every two weeks to prevent buildup that can ultimately contribute to hair damage.
SHOULD I GET KNOTLESS OR KNOT BRAIDS?
Now, for the answer you really came here for. There is no right or wrong decision. It depends on your natural hair needs, how much time you want to spend getting your hair braided, which braid style you prefer, & your budget. If you have a sensitive scalp or your edges are more fragile, then we recommend getting the tension-less knotless braids. If you don’t have a lot of time or don’t want to spend too much money, knot braids will be your best bet. Some people prefer a sleeker look & lighter feel to their braids, while some like the classic knotted box braids. It’s all up to you, but we know you will look like magic whatever you decide. Cornrows
are a protective hairstyle in which hair is braided closely to the scalp in continuous, raised rows. This style can be simple or intricate, depending on the chosen pattern. Cornrows are low-maintenance and long-lasting, protecting natural hair against breakage and environmental damage. They work well for various hair types and lengths and serve as a versatile base for other styles, such as buns, ponytails, and updos.
1. Classic Straight Back CornrowsDescription: This style features braids that run straight back from the hairline for a chic, timeless look. Seen on celebrities such as Alicia Keys.
Best for: Coiley, curly and textured hair. Styling tips: Add some gold, silver or wooden beads to your braids to personalize and show off your own personal style. These are a great way to make a fashion statement at events such as music festivals.
2. Goddess Cornrow Braids Description: This hairstyle features a mix of thick and thin braids with loose, wavy ends, creating a softer, goddess-like look. It has been seen on celebrities such as Ciara.
Best For: Having adequate hair length and strength is crucial for achieving neat and long-lasting cornrows. Ideally, the hair should be long enough to braid without putting excessive tension on the scalp, as this can lead to breakage.
Styling Tip: Consider adding hair extensions for added volume and length. Pop Smoke Cornrow Braids Description: Middle-parted jumbo cornrows inspired by rapper Pop Smoke. This style features thick, straight-back braids parted down the middle, creating a bold and structured look. It’s both stylish and low maintenance, making it perfect for daily life. Best For: Medium to thick, curly or coily hair. Styling Tip: Use scalp oil to care for your scalp and maintain moisture.
Half Cornrow Half Box Braid Description: This trendy fusion style starts with neat cornrows at the scalp and transitions into box braids, offering the best of both worlds. It’s versatile and can be styled into ponytails, buns, or left loose. Seen on celebrities such as Zoe Kravitz.
Best For: Medium to long hair, especially curly or coily textures.
Styling Tip: Use a braid spray to keep the braids hydrated and looking fresh.
Cornrowed Ponytail Description: A chic and elegant look, this style involves braiding the hair into cornrows that meet at the crown, forming a high ponytail. It’s perfect for both casual and formal occasions. Seen on celebrities such as Solange Knowles.
Best For: Long hair or extensions and thick or coily textured hair.
Styling Tip: Wrap the base of the ponytail with a braid for a stylish finish.
Cornrowed Heart with Braids Description: This intricate style incorporates a heart design into the cornrow pattern, making it a unique and eye-catching choice. It’s great for those looking to add a fun, personalized touch to their braids. As seen on Drake and his adorable son Adonis.
Best For: All hair types, especially medium to thick hair. Styling Tip: Use a tail comb for precise parting to achieve a well-defined heart shape.

Two Strand , Senegalese , Spring , Marley twists Twists are probably one of the easiest techniques to master when it comes to hairstyles. Twists are created by taking two sections of hair and wrapping or twisting them around one another. This technique is also known as the two-strand twist. Twists work on short, medium and long-lengthed hair and can range in width. For a twist that doesn’t easily unravel, you’ll want to wrap the sections tightly around each other. For a looser twist, you may need more product; then, simply wrap the sections looser around each other. No pulling at the root If you’re looking for a style that won’t pull on your edges, twists are the better option. They’re lightweight and won’t cause tugging at the scalp, even if you twist tightly. They don’t last very long Even on coily hair, twists don’t last as long as braids. They tend to puff up, get frizzy and loosen a lot quicker than braids, which makes them a better option for styles that will be taken out in a shorter amount of time. They require more upkeep Since twists don’t last as long, they do take more maintenance than braided hairstyles. You may have to retwist your ends or undo and retwist sections of your hair to keep your twists looking perfect.
